ACROSS, which has been building its activities responding to the environment surrounding English education and the needs of society, is now shifting its center of gravity to a platform for social contribution, limiting its training activities to its current members.
2. Social Contribution
ACROSS is promoting social contribution activities related to education by inviting a wide range of supporters. Currently, SEEC, an interchange program for students in Cambodia and Japan is underway.
SEEC stands for Supporting English Education in Cambodia.
3. Understanding the Multicultural World
Starting with the first tour in 1987 (Korea: Seoul and Jeju Island), we have conducted more than 30 tours for multicultural understanding until 2023 (New Zealand).
History
ACROSS was established in 1975 by the teachers who were inspired by the book "Why English?" (Nakatsu 1974). The main interest of the members was to improve their own voices and English pronunciation, which their students hear every day.
1975: ACROSS founded
As an independent training group for English teachers, ACROSS has developed a systematic curriculum and voice training for native Japanese-speaking English teachers. In addition, we have created a wide range of training programs for preservice teachers, such as training in expressive techniques to develop self-expression skills, classroom exchange, and learning English teaching methods. We have also planned and implemented study groups for multicultural understanding and overseas training programs, including tours of Asia.
2000 Establishment of NPO e-dream-s
In order to further expand our social contribution activities, we established the NPO e-dream-s. First, as a form of social contribution related to education, we launched an educational photo archive project. The book is available in Japanese, Korean, and English.
2011 Start of Cambodia Education Support Project
In 2011, ACROSS started textbook support project activities for Cambodian schools, and in 2013, started a scholarship support project. 2017, ACROSS invited Cambodian students to Japan to whom ACROSS provided scholarship support, and started a mutual cultural exchange program with Japanese students and students.
